Service disrupted as MRT train derails

-
Operations of the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) on EDSA were disrupted yesterday after a damaged track caused one of the trains to be derailed.

Witnesses said a train was making a turnaround at around 10 a.m. at the North Avenue terminal in Quezon City when the wheel of one coach went off the rails.

MRT officials confirmed that a damaged track caused the incident.

Management suspended the northbound and southbound operations between the Shaw and North Avenue stations.

MRT resumed normal operations by 2:15 p.m. after engineers repaired the damaged tracks at the North Avenue terminal.

The MRT services between 400,000 and 500,000 commuters daily.

Recently, the MRT extended their services up to 10:55 p.m. for its southbound trains and 11:05 p.m. for northbound trains to accommodate commuters who work late hours. – Sandy Araneta
