2 Chinese drug pushers nabbed

Police arrested two Chinese nationals and confiscated from them 10 kilos of shabu, with an estimated street value of P20 million, during a buy-bust operation over the weekend in Quezon City.

The arrest of suspects, Jimmy Co Wong, alias Ray, 33, of 20 Kamuning Road, Quezon City and Joason Zhang, alias Mort, 43, of 67 7th Ave., Caloocan City, was a product of one week surveillance by police intelligence operatives, said Director Ricardo de Leon, head of the National Capital Regional Police Office (NCRPO).

Wong and Zhang will be presented to the media in a press conference today at the NCRPO satellite office at the Central Police District (CPD) Station 10 in Kamuning, Quezon City.

Superintendent Rogelio Damazo, the newly-installed NCRPO intelligence chief, said a Chinese informant came forward last week and arranged for the purchase of a kilo of shabu from the suspects.

Damazo said the same informant worked for the arrest of three Chinese nationals who yielded 30 kilos of shabu worth P60 million last August.

After briefing De Leon of the shabu deal, Damazo directed Inspector Eduardo Morata, of the NCRPO Special Operations Group (SOG), to work for the arrest of Wong and Zhang.

The Chinese informant contacted the suspects through the cellular phone last Saturday and ordered a kilo of shabu for P800,000.

The two groups met in front a grocery store along Tandang Sora in Quezon City where SPO1 Elmer Orbe showed the suspects the NCRPO’s "show money."

Wong and Zhang reportedly led Orbe to their rented apartment-safehouse at 10-C Dakilang Lumpo St., in Proj. 6, Quezon City.

Unknown to them, Morata and another team headed by SPO2 Alberto Evia, in seven vehicles, were closely tailing them. The two SOG teams, Damazo said, positioned themselves discreetly around the safehouse without the suspects noticing them.

After being sure that the merchandize was indeed shabu, Damazo said Orbe then gave the pre-arranged signal for the teams of Morata and Evia to move in and arrest the suspects.

Wong and Zhang gave themselves up peacefully.

Damazo said a subsequent search of the suspects’ colored green Toyota Revo, with license plate XCF 590, yielded a blue bag containing another nine kilos of shabu.

Morata said the suspects appeared to have stayed in the country for a long period because they can speak the local dialect.

Damazo said the two will be charged today with drug pushing and illegal possession of shabu.
