3 hurt in LPG mishap

Three persons, including a 72-year-old woman, were hurt after a leaking liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tank exploded in San Andres, Manila yesterday morning.

Arson investigators said Isabel Martinez, 72, Unilo Maginlar, 41 and Marife Salazar, 31 suffered minor burns and were taken to a nearby hospital. They were immediately allowed to go home after medical treatment.

"All three victims suffered first to second degree burns. Their injuries were not that serious," Fire Officer 3 Wilson Tana said.

Tana said the incident took place at around 1:04 a.m. inside the house of Martinez located at 2387 Aquamarine street in San Andres.

He said that the victims were in the kitchen preparing breakfast at around 9 a.m. One of the victims lit a charcoal burner without knowing that the LPG tank was leaking.

"Shortly after striking the match, the LPG tank caught fire," he said. "Although injured, the victims managed to contain the blaze before it could engulf the entire house.

Tana asked the public to always check their LPG tanks to prevent accidents. Cecille Suerte Felipe
