PRC nabs another fixer

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) and the Philippine National Police-Western Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-WCIDG) once again scored in their all-out campaign against fixers following another arrest.
Jovinal Dorbe Mitra alias "Dr. Jhun Mitra" has been charged before the Manila City Prosecutors Office for estafa and usurpation of authority under the Revised Penal Code.
He was recently nabbed by elements of the WCIDG in front of the City State Hotel in Quiapo, Manila. The PRC coordinated with the WCDIG following a complaint from one of his victims, whom he allegedly swindled for P60,000 as payment for the assurance that he would pass the licensure examination for electronics and communications engineering.
Victims claimed the suspect would present himself as the assistant regional director of PRC-Iloilo and a board examiner of the PRC. He would then promise them a "passing" grade in the licensure examinations in exchange for a sum of money.
"There will be no fixers if there are no examinees willing to be fixed," lamented PRC chair Antonieta Fortuna-Ibe. "I appeal again to all examinees, especially those from the provinces, not to entertain offers from anybody assuring them of passing the exams."
She urged the public to report such individuals to the PRC Chairpersons Office at 7351535 or to the legal division at 7351248. They may also report similar cases to the PRC regional offices in Baguio, Tuguegarao, Legazpi, Lucena, Tacloban, Iloilo, Cebu, Davao, Cagayan de Oro and Zamboanga.
