Roldan kills man in road mishap

Criminal charges are being readied against actor-politician Dennis Roldan after he allegedly killed a 27-year-old man by running him over with his car in Quezon City Wednesday night.

Victim Ramon Baybayon, 27, a resident of 76 K9 St., Kamias, Quezon City, suffered a fractured skull and broken bones and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Capitol Medical Center.

Roldan, Mitchell Gumabao in real life and a former Congress member, was not available for comment. His car, a Nissan Sentra (WAS-277) is now in the hands of police. Roldan could face charges of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide.

Initial reports showed that the accident took place at about 8 p.m. near Baybayon’s home in K9 Street corner KJ Avenue in Kamias, Quezon City.

The victim was sitting alone near the sidewalk when Roldan, who was reportedly driving the car, came speeding out of nowhere and crashed into Baybayon.

Police said that the impact was so strong that the victim was thrown several feet into the air before landing on the pavement. Baybayon was rushed to the hospital where he died at about 8:20 p.m.

Reports are still sketchy, but according to SPO1 Jose Sabado of the traffic police, Roldan was the one driving the vehicle.

It is unclear whether the former congressman was under the influence of liquor at the time, but police said it could have just been an "honest-to-goodness" accident. – Matthew Estabillo
