Trader’s house robbed

-
Police are hunting at least five unidentified armed men after they beat-up a Filipino-Chinese businessman and hogtied his family before ransacking their home in broad daylight the other day in Quezon City.

Complainant Jaime Tan, 46, a resident of 87 Malakas St., Barangay Piñahan, Quezon City, claimed that he and his wife and two young sons were tied up and locked in their bathroom by the robbers.

The suspects, armed with handguns and bladed weapons, fled after carting away more that P700,000 in cash and jewelry.

The robbery occurred at about 6:30 a.m. Tan was in his garage warming up the car when the robbers barged in, announced the holdup, rounded up the Tan family, tied them up and locked them in the bathroom. Jaime was punched and kicked by one of the robbers.

After ransacking the house, the suspects ordered Tan’s wife to open the vault in the master’s bedroom. She complied and the robbers divested it of jewelry worth P620,000 and P80,000 in cash.

The robbers tied her up again, brought her back to the bathroom and then escaped. It is still unclear if they fled on foot or if they had a get-away vehicle. – Matthew Estabillo
