Drunken cop shoots youth in scuffle

A Central Police District policeman is facing possible relief from the service after he accidentally shot a 16-year-old student while in a drunken stupor in Caloocan City Wednesday.

The suspect, detained at the Caloocan police detention cell, was identified as SPO1 Ronaldo Gueta, a resident of Novaliches, Quezon City.

The victim, who is confined at the Neupolitan Hospital, was identified as Rogelio Lagmay of Clamansian street, Maligaya Subdivision, Caloocan City.

According to police reports, the incident occurred at about 10 p.m. in Calamansian where Gueta was drinking with some friends. A certain Charlie approached the suspect and told him that five teenagers were having a pot-session in a house nearby.

Despite his drunken state, Gueta rushed to the scene and caught the victim and his companions taking drugs. The suspect then pulled out his gun, but Lagmay tried to take it away from him.

A scuffle ensued resulting in Lagmay accidentally getting shot in the arm, while his companions fled the house. The bloodied victim was later taken to a nearby hospital. Gueta later surrendered. – Matthew Estabillo
