Mandaue finalizing towing ordinance

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Illegal parkers in Mandaue City, watch out! The city government is in the process of finalizing the implementing rules and regulations for an ordinance that will allow authorities to tow vehicles unlawfully parked in public places.

After the drafting of the IRR, the city will then start implementing the local regulation, said City Planning and Development Coordinator Florentino Nimor.

The City Council passed the amended towing ordinance in August last year, authorizing the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue to tow or impound illegally parked motor vehicles in any public road of the city.

“The City of Mandaue is presently suffering a heavy traffic congestion…whereas, the illegally parked, stranded and unattended vehicles cause obstruction and congestion in the streets of Mandaue City, which need prompt enactment of responsive measures,” read the ordinance.

To claim towed vehicles, owners of two-wheeled vehicles like motorcycles have to pay P1,000 and P1,300 for owners of tricycles.

For four wheels and up, the fees range from P2,000 to P6,000, depending on the capacity of the vehicle.

The ordinance also provides that storage fees of P100 to P500, depending on the size of the impounded car, will apply to all unclaimed vehicles.

Nimor said they will invite towing companies next week, from which they will choose one who will be accredited for the job.

“Taud-taud na natong ordinance napasar. Kinahanglan gyud kay problema na sa kadalanan, daghang sakyanan, gamay ra atong kadalanan, i-abuse pa gyud sa uban, himuong parking-ngan,” said City Councilor Elstone Dabon, who authored the measure.  (FREEMAN)
