Fisherman turns over turtle to authorities

CEBU, Philippines – A fisherman from Talisay City caught an estimated 20-kilogram sea turtle in the waters of Cordova town yesterday morning.

Constantino Ramos told the police he was fishing off Cordova and was surprised to learn that a sea turtle took his bait.

Talisay City police chief Superintendent Germano Mallari told The FREEMAN that Constantino immediately paddled back ashore to turn over the creature to authorities.

The police, who went to the shore, called up the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources yesterday to conduct documentation and eventually release the sea turtle.

It was not immediately confirmed whether the animal sustained injuries. (FREEMAN)
