Illegal swertres mellows down in Minglanilla?

Gabriel Bonjoc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – Chief Inspector Franco Oriol, chief of Minglanilla police, claimed that the illegal swertres operations in the town have decreased.

Oriol said the frequent operations against illegal gambling resulted to the decrease of the illegal swertres.

He said they shut down 16 illegal swertres outlets in different barangays in a span of three weeks.

The police official added that as of now, he has not received any information on illegal outlets catering a numbers game again.

However, he said  it could not be denied that there are operators of illegal swertres who would still continue their illegal gambling operations, only not as visible as before.

Prior to the police operations, illegal swertres outlets could be seen along the road, with operators allegedly not fearing arrest.

Oriol said these operators even put up stalls just beside the legal operator, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).

"Nimenus gyud siya pero sa atong experience moabli gyud na sila apan mo-resort na sila sa usher style o ba kaha ining guerilla style nga pagpamaligya og numero," Oriol said.

Oriol said they will continue their operation against all forms of illegal gambling and they are still expecting information given to them by the public and barangay officials.

He is thankful to the barangay officials who exerted their effort in helping the local police to curb down the illegal swertres operation in the town.

He is also hopeful that the barangay officials would be consistent in helping them to decrease the number of illegal gambling activities in his area of responsibility.

"Tungod kay active ang atong mga barangay officials, kinahanglan nga ato sab silang tugbangan ug dili nato pakyason ang ilang paningkamot nga malinawon ug wala'y illegal nga kalihukan sa ilang lugar," Oriol said. (FREEMAN)
