Cop shoots man who fired at neighbor

CEBU, Philippines – A man who reportedly tried to shoot a neighbor has been reportedly shot by a police officer on Bascon Street, Barangay Dumlog, Talisay City yesterday morning.

Archem Dospueblos, 27, resident of Barangay Mohon, Talisay City, sustained gunshot wound on his left thigh.

Police Officer 1 Josephe Bejer, desk officer at Talisay City Police Station, said that Police Officer 3 Ferdinand Pablo and his colleagues responded to the alarm.

Bejer said Judy Cañizares, 34, married, resident of said place, and a friend were talking near the barangay hall when the suspect, who was riding on a motorcycle, arrived and shot him several times.

Fortunately, the victim was unharmed and able to run.

Police Officer 1 Ranulfo Villaver, who is assigned at Alegria Police Station, chanced to pass by and intervened, introducing himself as a police officer.

However, the suspect fired at him which prompted him to take cover.

Villaver returned fire and hit the suspect's left thigh. Dospueblos fell on the road from motorcycle.

The suspect's alleged cohort fled using the motorcycle as getaway vehicle.

The suspect surrendered and was rushed him the hospital.

Villaver seized the .45 caliber firearm from the suspect, as well as three live ammunition.

The responding police officers then recovered from the scene five empty shells of .45; two deformed slugs; and nine empty shells of .9mm firearm.

Superintendent Germano Mallari, chief of Talisay City Police, said Villaver answered the call of his profession and just chanced to hit a suspect.

He said Villaver was about to go to Alegria to report to his work when the shooting incident occurred.

Police are still conducting follow-up operation to identify the other suspect who fled after the incident. (FREEMAN)
