Team: Help offer solutions to city traffic congestion

Flor Z. Perolina - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines -  The Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (TEAM) said it now welcomes “constructive criticisms” from motorists so it could further improve the city’s new traffic scheme which is currently on a 60-day dry run.

“Every resident, commuter or motorist is part of the problem and must contribute also to its solution,” said TEAM director Glenn Antigua

However, Antigua said he was also glad that aside from some sharp criticisms, he also received commendations from the public.

At present, TEAM is studying on the possibility of designating a loading and unloading area for tricycles somewhere on P. Gomez Street because tricycles reportedly create a jam near a compound owned by the Seno family.

“The new traffic scheme is very good except that ang road nga naa sa may P. Burgos (two lanes ra). Mga around 7 a.m. ma-congested tungod sa garbage truck considering also sa mga tricycle ug jeepney nga mohunong ilang Adeng Seno,” Antigua said.

“Hopefully ang garbage truck earlier ang pagpanguha sa basura para dili makaharang sa duha ka lane,” a resident suggested.

Antigua said there are also others who suggested that traffic enforcers should also be watchful during nighttime since many taxi drivers made a counter flow on S.B. Cabahug Street.

Others suggested that tricycles should have designated lanes to prevent them from changing lanes.

According to Antigua, they are now closely coordinating with the Department of Public Works and Highways to fast-track the completion of their project along Plaridel Street to complement the re-routing scheme.

The traffic hear earlier said after the dry run ends on September 29, TEAM will submit to the City Council a report indicating whether the new traffic scheme can officially become permanent in the city.  (FREEMAN)
