Cordova bizmen asked: Comply with terms

CEBU, Philippines - As more economic activities are seen to spur in Cordova in the next 10 to 25 years, town officials have highlighted the need for subdivision developers to comply with all legal requirements.

According to former municipal councilor Gregorio Jumao-as, Mayor Adelino Sitoy welcomes any form of development in the town but that necessary requirements must first complied with in order to prevent future issues.

Juma-os cited some local government units in Cebu that have encountered problems because of the proliferation of subdivisions and other real estate developments in their places.

The problems, he said, include lack of drainage system, road issues and other concerns affecting the residents.

He further said the plan to put up a bridge linking Cordova and Cebu City is good sign for the town’s economic prospects.

The former town councilor also said they are expecting a number of people wanting to reside in the town, especially with the move to put up light industries in the town like those companies operating at the Mactan Export Zone.

Some businessmen, especially members of the Cebu Koreans Association, have earlier announced their interest to put up tourism-related business in Cordova.

Along with these businesses is the surge in the population of the town as workers would opt then to stay close to their place of work.

Putting up more subdivisions is one of the solutions to the need for more places to stay, according to Jumao-as, but he reiterated developers should comply with all the requirements set by the municipal government and national agencies like the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board. — Jose P.
