CEBU, Philippines - Cebu sixth district Representative Luigi Quisumbing yesterday facilitated a meeting between the Mandaue City Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Department of Education to discuss important features of the K+12 program.

Quisumbing said he initiated the meeting in order to link DepEd's initiative with that of MCCI and the private sector as some of the features of the program need the support of the private sector.

At the meeting, Home Economics and Livelihood Education supervisor Dr. Fay Luarez presented the K+12 senior high school preparation and the K+ 12 program to the MCCI officials and Board of Trustees led by their President Jerual Roa.

Luarez emphasized that under the program, the last two years of senior high school are geared towards specialized subjects and possible internships in the student's preferred careers.

Quisumbing hopes that through the meeting, DepEd will get the support it needs from the private sector.

"The business sector can be tapped for on-the-job trainings and future employment of the graduates, that is why the support of the MCCI is very much needed," Quisumbing said.

He further said there is a need to enhance public-private partnership in order to provide the youth more opportunities for skills development, employment and entrepreneurship.

"As I always say, nothing is more important than giving our children the tools and extend every opportunity to help them become productive members of our society in the future," Quisumbing added. (FREEMAN)
