Suspected robber falls

CEBU, Philippines - A man who was allegedly involved in robberies at the Reclamation Area was arrested by the Waterfront police Saturday evening in T. Padilla Extension, barangay T. Padilla, Cebu City.

The arrest of Julius Maambong, 33, single, and resident of the barangay was attributed to a call from a concerned citizen who saw him in possession of a .38 revolver a few minutes before 10:00 p.m.

Maambong was believed to be responsible for a string of robberies on board public utility jeepneys at the Reclamation Area, which is under the jurisdiction of the Waterfront Police Station.

Waterfront police chief Chief Insp. Wildemar Tiu said Maambong was seen armed by a concerned citizen.

Tiu and his team led by PO3 Christopher Sanchez immediately responded.

Maambong saw the police coming and threw his Smith and Wesson .38 revolver while trying to elude arrest.

After a brief chase, Maambong was arrested.

Police also recovered the revolver, which was loaded with three bullets.

“Wala sad siya makalayo kay naapsan man dayon unya wala na pud siyay armas, mas alkansi siya,” Tiu said.

Aside from the revolver, police also confiscated from Maambong five packets containing alleged shabu.

For purposes of filing charges, Tiu encourages other robbery victims to come forward and identify Maambong.

Tiu said Maambong was involved in at least seven robberies in June and July.

Among  those who appeared at the police station yesterday were Subee Javier Cordero, Maria Luisa Goc-ong, Gilbert Lobedica, Andrew Soriano, Griymar Espina, Wuastero Modado, and Madelyn Saladaga.

Aside from the robbery case, police will file charges against Maambong for illegal possession of firearm and illegal possession of illegal drugs.

He is now detained at the Waterfront police stockade. (FREEMAN)
