Ship trainee missing after jumping off ship

CEBU, Philippines - A 22-year-old marine engineering apprentice has disappeared after diving into the water from a ship to allegedly retrieve a wallet Thursday evening at the Sandoval Shipyard, barangay Tayud, Consolacion town.

The police and the Coast Guard are still searching for Ariel Montebon of Estancia, Iloilo.

Homicide investigator PO3 Arthur Ariate said the wallet owned by the cook of the M/V Lady of Prosperity fell into the water, and Montebon went after it. He failed to resurface.

“Nagpaabot sila unya wala na man gyud mutunga, gaduda na sila nga dunay dautang nahitabo,” he said.  (FREEMAN)
