4-year-old girl drowns

CEBU, Philippines - A four-year-old girl was found dead by her parents in the shoreline of barangay Suba-basbas, Sunday morning.

Cherry Ann Alegre, of barangay Agus was taken to the Mactan Doctors' Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The girl, her parents, and neighbors had taken advantage of the low tide to look for seashells.

At around 9 a.m., the parents decided to go home and started to look for their daughter.

 They found her floating in the water that was about knee deep.

They said they allowed her to be on her own, confident that the water at the time was just ankle deep.

But the water had risen slowly. (FREEMAN)
