Fire destroys 15 shanties

CEBU, Philippines - Fire destroyed fifteen shanties along the riverbank at Zone 3 in barangay Mantuyong, Mandaue City yesterday afternoon.

SFO1 Roy Garcia said the fire could have been caused by children who played with matches inside an abandoned shanty.

Residents heard an explosion before the fire.

Garcia said the fire spread quickly since majority of houses are mostly made of amacan and other light materials and are close to one another.

Damage to property was placed at P50,000. (FREEMAN)
