Paz: Caubian Island can host new airport

CEBU, Philippines - If the Mactan Cebu International Airport is to be transferred, it might as well be relocated to the island of Caubian in Lapu-Lapu City and not to Cordova town, Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza said.

Radaza made the statement in response to reports that Cordova town Mayor Adelino Sitoy has offered to host the airport in his turf.

However, Radaza said she is not sure if Sitoy is serious about the offer because moving an airport to any place would require a lot of study and loads of money.

“Kung balhinon man gani ang airport sa Mactan adto nalang sa Caubian Island kay nindot kaayo ang maong lugar,” said Mayor Radaza.

Mayor Radaza and airport general manager Nigel Paul Villarete met recently to discuss the airport’s obligation to the city government of Lapu-Lapu.

Lapu-Lapu claims the airport owes the city P1 billion in unpaid real property taxes. – (FREEMAN)
