Naga Council lauds fisherman who saved four men at sea

-

CEBU, Philippines - The Naga City Council has commended a local fisherman for saving four residents of Talisay City last week.

The Council approved last Monday a resolution formally commending Cresencio Tañan for his “act of kindness” and “bravery.”

Tañan found Allan Miraña and Jacinto Miraña, Charles Baldo and Steven Campo stranded off the seawaters of Naga on board their pump boat last Friday morning. They have been stranded for more then 24 hours and were barely moving when Tañan found them.

They were on their way back to Cebu after attending a relative's burial in Tubigon, Bohol when the boat’s engine conked out while they were navigating through rough waters. Waves had pushed them towards the seawaters of Naga, but they could not travel to shore owing to the defective engine.

The four said another fisherman actually saw them earlier, but refused help. At that time he helped them, Tañan was suffering from abdominal pain.

The four are residents of Barangay Cansojong, Talisay City.

Aside from the commendation, the Naga Council also rewarded Tañan P5,000.

“Whereas, the singular exemplary act of kindness, selflessness and bravery of Nagahanon Cresencio Tañan deserves the sincerest appreciation of this August body and is worthy of emulation and sense of pride by our fellow Nagahanons,” reads a portion of the resolution penned by Councilor Carmelino Cruz Jr. – THE FREEMAN
