And now, the Ateneo Swatch

MANILA, Philippines – The Ateneo Swatch, which has been made to commemorate the 150 years of the Jesuits in a the country, is a great gift for the Atenean dad.

One hundred fifty years ago, the Jesuits arrived in Manila with the intention of starting missions in Mindanao. But because they were requested by the people of Manila, they began a school called the Escuela Municipal de Manila on December 10, 1859. This school was located right across the San Ignacio Church in Intramuros and was the very first Ateneo campus.

On June 14, the Ateneo de Manila University and the Society of Jesus, Philippine Province celebrated their Sesquicentennial, their 150th anniversary, with a Mass at the Manila Cathedral. The Sesquicentennial kick-off Mass marked the beginning of the university’s sesquicentennial celebrations this year. The Sesquicentennial Festivities of the Ateneo had three running themes: Celebrating Excellence, Deepening Spirituality, and Building the Nation.

The Ateneo and Swatch collaborated to create a timeless memorabilia to remember the Sesquicentennial milestone.   Check out The Ateneo Watch by Swatch designed by Ateneo senior student, Jason Nallas. This limited edition Swatch watch is a timepiece to be treasured for generations. It’s an ideal gift for family, friends, and loved ones here and abroad. The profit from sales will be donated to the “500 at 150 Sesquicentennial Scholarship Campaign”. The objective is to send 500 scholars through school at the Ateneo.

The Ateneo Watch by Swatch is exclusively available at the Office of University Development and Alumni Relations, Alingal Hall, Ateneo-Loyola Heights campus and all the Swatch Stores and Kiosks in the Philippines.
