Maalalang na-diagnose si Sam na merong type 1.5 diabetes (o LADA, latent autoimmune diabetes in adults) nung nagpa-check-up siya sa Singapore exactly a year ago.

Ang LADA ayon sa Mayoclinic  “Latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA) is a type of diabetes that starts in adulthood and slowly gets worse over time. Like type 1 diabetes, LADA happens when the pancreas stops making insulin. That’s usually because an autoimmune process is damaging cells in the pancreas. But unlike type 1 diabetes, in LADA, the process happens slowly. So people who have LADA often don’t need to take insulin right away.

“Many researchers believe LADA is a form of type 1 diabetes that develops much more slowly in adults. It’s sometimes called type 1.5 diabetes. But some question if LADA should be classified differently in that way. Instead, they see it as the same disease, type 1 diabetes, that happens differently in adults than it does in children.”

Ayon sa caption ng actor :  “When I found out I had diabetes, I was really discouraged.

“But I realized giving up isn’t an option. I just need to keep fighting,” umpisa niya.

Dagdag pa niya : “Despite the challenges, I choose to live my best life. And I’m just starting.”
