MANILA, Philippines — With the upcoming super El Niño, strict water conservation protocols will be enforced across camps and stations of the Philippine National Police.

The PNP is preparing assistance to communities bracing for water shortages.

“I have directed all police units to strictly implement water conservation measures, including the immediate repair of leaks, responsible use of water in camps and stations and adoption of water-saving practices in daily operations,” PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources earlier issued a water conservation advisory.

In compliance with President Marcos’ directive, the PNP has mobilized its engineering units to conduct comprehensive internal logistics assessments and utility pipeline audits at Camp Crame and various regional headquarters.

Regional and provincial police offices must coordinate with local government units to map out rapid-response protocols for anticipated water scarcity in highly populated areas, Nartatez said.

The PNP logistics command has been ordered to prepare assets, including water tankers, trucks and multirole transport vehicles, which will be deployed to aid in water distribution should shortages disrupt communities.

Nartatez appealed to the public to practice responsible water consumption to prevent severe shortages in the coming months.
