CEBU, Philippines — A man’s body was found floating in the waters off Barangay Guiwanon, Argao on Wednesday, June 10, 2026.

The victim was identified as Randy Zamora, a 50-year-old resident of the barangay.

According to the Argao Municipal Police Station, authorities received a report around noon that a body had been spotted floating at sea near the barangay.

Police officers immediately responded to the scene together with personnel from the Argao Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO).

The body was later retrieved by personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard and the MDRRMO and brought ashore for further examination.

Initial investigation showed that the victim was first discovered by Neal Villamor, a resident of Barangay Taloot, Argao, while he was checking his fish trap in the area.

Investigators said Zamora was last seen around 10 p.m. on June 9 after reportedly drinking alcohol following a fiesta celebration in Barangay Simala, Sibonga.

His uncle, Antonio Zamora, a councilman in Guiwanon, said the victim was at their home around 7 p.m. that evening and had dinner before leaving.

The councilor also said Zamora had a visual impairment and was known to roam around barangays Guiwanon and Bulasa.

Police said the family of the victim had already been notified, and an autopsy was recommended to determine the exact cause of death.

Authorities said the investigation into the incident is ongoing. — /MRM (FREEMAN)
