Councilor backs VP Sara for president

CEBU, Philippines — Consolacion’s number one councilor, Leo Napuli, has formally declared his all-out support for the Sara Duterte for President Movement, saying the vice president is the leader the Philippines needs in the coming elections.
Napuli said his support for Duterte isn’t new, saying that he has been politically aligned with her camp since 2016.
“We need a decisive, true, and compassionate leader,” he said, “ang Pilipinas karon nagkinahanglan og political will, firm decisions, fearless leadership, dili mahadlok sa mga isyu sa katilingban.”
Napuli said his motivation stems from his belief that the country needs strong political will to address present challenges. He hopes to see a return to a leadership anchored on public order, discipline, and genuine concern for citizens.
“Gusto ko mobalik ang kahimtang nga adunay malasakit sa katawhan. Karon, kulang ang political will,” he said.
The announcement was made during a press conference held alongside leaders of the Sara Duterte for President Movement. Joining Napuli on the panel were lead convenor Toto Lacro and co-convenor RJ Bayon-on.
Lacro said Napuli’s declaration of support for Duterte will create a ripple effect among incumbent local officials in Cebu to follow suit.
Lacro also clarified that while discussions about a potential vice presidential running mate have yet to be finalized, they will support whoever Duterte chooses.
Lacro noted that grassroots efforts are already underway, particularly in Mindanao and other areas, to consolidate support. He expressed openness to alliances with other political groups that share the same vision.
The announcement marks what he described as the first formal pronouncement from their local council in support of Duterte’s candidacy. — (FREEMAN)
