Erap endorses Pacman for congressman

MANILA, Philippines – Former President Joseph Estrada has “endorsed” boxing champion Manny Pacquiao for congressman in the lone district of Sarangani.

Estrada held a two-day “Lakbay Pasasalamat” in General Santos City upon the invitation of Pacquiao.

The former president, who was given a warm welcome at the Pacquiao residence, gladly raised the hand of the People’s Champ and endorsed him for congressman in Sarangani.

Estrada said Pacquiao, who came from humble beginnings, could help the poor people in Sarangani where his wife Jinky grew up.

“Yes, I endorsed him because I believe that he could help and share his blessings to the people of Sarangani. It’s not only me but also the entire Filipinos who are endorsing Manny,” Estrada said.

Pacquiao ran for congress during the 2007 elections under the administration banner Lakas-CMD but lost to incumbent South Cotabato Rep. Darlene Antonino-Custodio.

Pacquiao, an ally of President Arroyo, acknowledged the support given to him by Estrada.

“It is an honor for me that former President Erap accepted my invitation and visited us,” Pacquiao said.

Estrada and Pacquiao also welcome the possibility of joining forces for the 2010 elections. – Jose Rodel Clapano
