MANILA, Philippines — Showing their solidarity with thousands of protesters, celebrities participated in the “Trillion Peso March” yesterday, with some cursing the government over massive corruption in flood control projects.

People from the entertainment industry marched from EDSA Shrine to the People Power Monument, braving the heat and rain.

Comedian Vice Ganda swore at corrupt officials, saying “they’re animals.” “Father, forgive me, but f**k them. I know the mass has just ended, but Lord, forgive me because this is true. This is the language of all Filipinos whose money was stolen.”

Vice Ganda also sought the restoration of the death penalty for corrupt government officials, who he said are much worse than terrorists.

“Jail time is not enough. Thieves should be killed. The death penalty should be brought back for the corrupt. Their families should be jailed, too,” the comedian said.

He challenged President Marcos to throw all corrupt officials behind bars.

Other celebrities who joined the protests were Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray, Iza Calzado, Donny Pangilinan, siblings Anne Curtis and Jasmine Curtis-Smith, Nadine Lustre, Julia Barretto and Gabbi Garcia.

Singers Bayang Barrios and Noel Cabangon were also in attendance. — Emmanuel Tupas
