CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Labor and Employment has recognized the Visayan Electric Company (VECO), the first electric utility provider in the country to be awarded by DOLE, for complying with labor laws and standards.

Yesterday, Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz led the awarding of the Certificate of Compliance (COC) to VECO, as well as the unveiling of the DOLE Compliant Zone Marker.

With the giving of COC, VECO is recognized for passing general labor standards, compliance with the child labor law, occupational safety and health standards, and observing practices related to labor relations.

The conduct of labor compliance assessments is based on Department Order 131 which aims to protect workers by obliging employers to comply with labor laws and standards.

Productivity-based pay at incentive or bonuses na dagdag pa doon sa kanilang kinikita,” she added.

She said labor law compliance officers, who coordinate with the company, would conduct joint assessments, compliance visits and occupational safety and health standards investigation.

“Kasama ang creation ng labor union or a representative ng mga workers sa assessment,” she further said.

VECO is the country’s second largest private power distributor.  (FREEMAN)
