UC Webmasters bag third straight crown of the year

CEBU, Philippines — From Moalboal to Davao and now in Surigao.

The University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters secured their third consecutive crown of the year after reigning supreme in the 78th Mabungahong Socorro Fiesta Basketball Tournament in Socorro, Surigao del Norte last Thursday, June 18.

The Webmasters held off fellow Cebu team University of San Carlos (USC)-Dimes, 84-81, in a thrilling final match that went into overtime.

Maverick Eligoyo exploded for 28 points including five 3-pointers, three of which he dropped in the extra five-minute period that keyed UC’s title-clinching victory.

Eligoyo also grabbed eight rebounds and blocked one shot to help the Webmasters claim their third straight championship trophy after the 1st Moalboal Commercial Fiesta Basketball League two months ago and the

89th Araw ng Dabaw Invitational Basketball Tournament in Davao City last March.

The Webmasters of coach Atty. Kernn Sesante will now brace for a much tougher challenge in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) Season 26, which is set to kick off in August. — (FREEMAN)
