CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Roosevelt Memorial Colleges (CRMC) Baby Mustangs emerged as champion in basketball event of the City of Bogo Alliance of Private Schools (CBAPS) Sports Meet 2023.

The Baby Mustangs crushed the Felipe R. Verallo Foundation College (FRVFC) Baby Dragons, 60-40, in their one-sided final match last Saturday at the Don Celestino Martinez Coliseum.

“This victory was not easy. It was earned with hard work. Despite our limited resources, the passion of the players prevailed. Forever proud of these young talents,” said head coach Karl Tariman after steering the Baby Mustangs to a clean five-game sweep in the tournament.

Tariman is assisted by his trusted deputies Serg Alburo, Prince Soquiño, and Chrisjohn Endrina.

Before trouncing the Baby Dragons, the Baby Mustangs cruised to impressive wins against Araneta Learning Center, St. Louis de Marillac, Northern Cebu Colleges, and San Roque College de Cebu.

Lee Michael Dahil starred for the Baby Mustangs with 22 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists.

Renren Adlawan and Dirk Gonza also had a stellar double-double performance for the Baby Mustangs. Adlawan cashed in 14 points and 11 rebounds laced with four assists while Gonza tallied 12 markers on top of 11 assists and three boards.

“We are happy and proud to be this year’s best high school basketball team amongst private schools in the north. I am glad to be part of this journey considering the short preparation we had. I truly believe that our system won this championship for us with the assistance and guidance of coach Paul Alelu Flores,” said CRMC athletic director and team manager Marc Malazarte.

“This is a good avenue for our high school players to showcase their talent and be discovered considering Bogo City now has three teams competing in the CESAFI,” Malazarte added. “We would like to thank our school president, Victor Elliot Lepiten III,  Jacinto Antonio Lepiten Jr., Jay Tonette Lepiten, and Jac Lester Lepiten for their undying support towards the sports program of the school.” – EBV
