Capariño leads age-group winners, Cadiz is July’s best in CEPCA monthly

CEBU, Philippines — Jethro Ysmael Capariño leads the cast of age-group winners, while National Master Arnold Cadiz grabbed the July title of the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA) monthly tournament over the weekend at the J Centre Mall along A.S. Fortuna Street in Mandaue City.

 

Capariño posted 4.5 points to lord it over the 20-under category. Christian Klent Pondoyo finished second with 4.0 points, while Adrian Basil Basilgo and Jeremy Rose Bajo occupied the next two spots with 3.0 and 2.0 points, respectively.

Aaron Keife Sinining, on the other hand, topped the 16-under battle with a perfect 5.0 points. Rogel Niño Panilagao came out second with 4.0 points followed by Lawrence Anthony Paradela and Sixto Tumulak III with 3.5 and 3.0 points.

In the 12-under, Richard Gohetia Jr. emerged as champion with a clean 6-0 record. Nash Misal wound up second with 5.0 points, while Jesusito Tatoy Jr. and Edelyn Vosotros completed the top four with 4.0 points each.

Capariño, Senining and Gohetia thus advanced to the grand finals together with the early qualifiers Christian Klent Pondoyo, Adrian Basil Basilgo, Duane Borgonia, and Jeremy Rose Bajo (U20), Arje Villarin, Aldritz Pondoyo, Reishi Boy Polan, and Vic Gyles Derotas, (U16), and  Aaron Resma, Jervy Villarin, Lynell Henri Jumao-as, and Nicole Mangubat.

Cadiz, for his part, topped the most latest edition of the CEPCA monthly after completing a five-game sweep.

Mario Bustillo and NM Rogelio Enriquez, Jr. were at joint second and third with 4.0 points apiece, while Rogel Niño Panilagao placed fourth with 3.0 points.

As additional reward, Cadiz joined Eduard dela Torre, Mario Bustillo, Rogelio Enriquez Jr., Joselito Loquez Jr., Zilberstein Torres, and Kidd Salazar into the year-ending “CEPCA Battle of Champions” this December. — EBV
