Weekday mall sales ban deferred

Robertzon Ramirez - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Inter-Agency Council on Traffic (IACT) has moved the ban on weekday mall sales in Metro Manila, meant to ease traffic congestion, from Oct. 21 to Nov. 1.

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) general manager and IACT member Tim Orbos said IACT and mall owners have agreed in a meeting yesterday to move the ban.

“The IACT granted the mall owners’ request to move the no weekly mall sales because there are some mall owners… that could not back out of their scheduled mall sales,” Orbos said.

He added that the scheduled mall sales on weekends will push through.

Orbos said the IACT is thankful to the mall owners’ “sacrifice” in agreeing to have no mall sales on weekdays even if it means losing about 30 percent of their overall yearly sales.
