Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Seeing running as a way to support Cebu City Sports Commission’s grassroots program as well as to celebrate its 14th year anniversary, Flame It! will stage the second edition of its  ‘Burger Run’ on May 15 at the Sugbu grounds in South Road Properties.

It will be a run for a cause, since the organizers headed by Ella Villacin, Flame It! Chief operating officer, will use part of the proceeds to help CCSC's grassroots athletes trained by Cebu’s marathon queen Mary Joy Tabal and his longtime coach Philip Duenas.

CCSC chairman Edward Hayco said Flame It! has not only helped young athletes, but it has also rekindled the flame on the hearts of these children to conquer poverty and use their potential as they aim to represent the country on the international stage in the future.

"They have put on flames of hopes in the lives of these kids who can only afford one meal a day," said Hayco in a press conference yesterday at Flame It! in Ayala Center Cebu."We are thankful for these extraordinary people helping the grassroots program .They provide these kids opportunities,” he added.

Over 1,000 runners are expected to join the race, which features the 21K, 14K, 14K group and 5K categories.

The organizers will also give 60 slots for free to young Cebuano runners who opt to see action in the 3K distance.

The 21K division, on the other hand will be divided into five age groups:senior 1(20-29), senior 2 (30-39), master 1(40-49) master 2(50-59) and master 3(60-above).

Cash prizes await the winners in the 21K and 14K, while the top finishers in other divisions will receive plaques, gift certificates and gift packs.

Registration fee is pegged at P800 for 21K, P600 for 14K, P2, 700 for 14K group and P450 for 5K inclusive of singlet, race bib and post-race refreshments. Entry forms are available at all four Flame It! branches and at the Outlets in Pueblo Verde in Lapu-Lapu City. — (FREEMAN)
