Mayweather wants Garcia

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - After all, Floyd Mayweather, Jr. isn't slamming the door on a ring comeback.

In a recent interview with Showtime's Jim Gray, Mayweather hinted at a possible return to the ring on condition that it must be a nine-figure payday and a championship bout.

In a report by veteran sportscribe Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports, Mayweather told Gray that he has been in talks with CBS and Showtime for a megabuck deal that may lure him out of retirement.

The retired boxing great even replied 'both', albeit with a laugh, when asked by Gray if he would come back for the money or the opportunity to raise his record and break the 49-0 mark he currently shares with the late heavyweight legend Rocky Marciano.

Mayweather's revelations came as a big surprise as he insisted many times before that he is already happy and contended with his status right now.

"Yes, I'm happy to be where I'm at," Mayweather said to Gray in the same report by Iole. "Everyone is asking, asking me, 'Is Floyd Mayweather coming back?' Right now, I'm happy on this side [of the ropes], but I've been talking with CBS and Showtime and you just never know. But for now, I'm happy on this side."

"As of right now, you know, some crazy numbers have been thrown my way, upwards of, of course, nine figures. I'm truly blessed, way beyond belief. I don't know what we're going to do, but right now, I'm happy being on this side helping fighters," added the former pound-for-pound king.

As for his opponent should he decides to make a comeback, Mayweather is receptive to a showdown with WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia.

"Danny Garcia, another name, undefeated prospect, undefeated champion in two different weight classes," Mayweather said. "Very exciting fighter. You just never know."

But as to who and what will fetch him out of retirement, Mayweather made his intentions clear.

"If I came back, of course, it would have to be a nine-figure payday and probably a championship fight and a nine-figure payday," Mayweather said. (FREEMAN)
