Fleming vows to steal the show
CEBU, Philippines - Unbeaten Australian prospect Paul ‘2 Gunz’ Fleming (21-0, 14KOs) plans on putting on a show in front of Filipino fans as he takes on Mexican Angel ‘Ranita’ Gonzales (22-7, 12KOs) for the vacant WBC Continental Americas super featherweight belt in the supporting main event of Nonito Donaire’s WBO super bantamweight title defense against Zsolt Bedak of Hungary this Saturday night at the Cebu City Sports Center.
The 28-year-old Fleming promised to bring his fan-friendly and aggressive style with him as he expressed confidence in defeating the Mexican boxer.
“There is a reason why they (Top Rank) signed me and fans will know that during the fight,” said the WBO Asia Pacific super featherweight champion in a press conference at the Social in Ayala Center Cebu. “I am a fast southpaw and I am going to show superior boxing skills. I can say that I fight like Donaire.”
Fleming claimed that his battle with the Mexican will be a fight to look out for because it’s going to be an all-out war inside the ring.
“We know Mexican boxers are tough warriors and they came to win so it’s going to be a war because I am not a boring type of fighter as I always let my hands go,” he said. “
“I don’t made predictions (about a knockout) but all I can say is that if he (Gonzales) opens up then It could be an early night.”
Fleming said he can’t afford to lose against Gonzales because he feels that he is getting closer to his dream of getting a crack at the world title.
“I am ready for that (world title shot) anytime, anywhere. I want to face the strongest in my division like Roman Martinez, (Vasyl) Lomachenko or (Jessie) Vargas,” he added.
In his recent fight, Fleming knocked out Thongthai Rajanondh of Thailand in the second round on July 13 last year in New South Wales, Australia. (FREEMAN)
