Seno still U18 champ

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – Multi-titled Cebuano netter Jan Godfrey Seno blasted John Clyde Laquio of Naga City in straight sets to successfully defend his 18-under title in the Cebu leg of the 10th Cebuana Lhuillier Age-Group Tennis Tournament yesterday at the CitiGreen Tennis Resort in Barangay Punta Princesa, Cebu City.

Seno, a varsity of University of San Carlos, whipped Laquio in the first set, 6-3, then sustained his momentum to seal the deal via a 6-2 decision.

In more than 10 matches against each other, the 16-year-old pride of Bogo City has not dropped a game against Laquio.

Another Cebu bet Venz Anton Louise Alforque snared the boys 14 crown after posting 6-3, 6-3 triumph against Kapatagan's Richard Bautista, 6-3,6-3, while Lapu-Lapu City's Tiffany Claire Nocos clinched the girls 12 tiara after outlasting Zamboanga's Maria Maxiel Rica Labrador, 6-1,6-4.

It wasn't an all-Cebuano domination though as some visiting players ruled their respective classes.

Jose Maria Paque, who lost to Seno in the boys 18 quarterfinal via super tiebreak, bounced back to snatch the boys 16 plum at the expense of Marc Nicole Suson, 6-4, 6-0, while Surigao's Rupert Ohrelle Tortal topped the boys 12 division after beating Tubod, Lanao del Norte's Brent Sigmond Cortes, 6-2, 2-6, 10-8.

Not to be outdone, Manila's Macie Carlos pulled off a 6-2, 2-6, 10-8 triumph over Zamboanga's Sudney Ezra Enriquez in the girls 14 final, while Maramag's Heinz Aslan Carbonilla proved too much for Tubod, Lanao's Kurt Gervan Bandolis, 4-0, 4-0 in their unisex 10-under final match. (FREEMAN)
