Canlubang seizes PAL Seniors lead

CEBU, Philippines - Canlubang found its mark at the rolling Club Filipino Incorporada de Cebu course in Danao City Friday and seized the lead in the premiere Championship division midway through the Philippine Airlines (PAL) Seniors Interclub.

Tommy Manotoc, who missed the tournament for a couple of years, showed that he is back in top form as he led the Sugar Barons with a one-over-par 53 points output in the Molave System.  The team fired 140 points yesterday for a two-day aggregate of 269 points.

Also counting for the team total in the four-to-play, three-to-count format were Rolando Viray 44 and Luigi Yulo with 43.  The 37 of Tony Olives did not count.

Erstwhile leader and defending champion Luisita fired 130 points yesterday and dropped to second with a total of 267.  Counting for the team total were Francis Gaston 45, Miñing Maravilla 44, and Seve Roxas Chua 41.  The 40 of Eduardo Sison did not count.

Cebu Country Club stayed at third place with a total of 256 points after shooting 130 points in round two.  Koichi Horii once again led his team with 48 points and was backed by Edito Tirol with 42 and Dr. Lor Alaan with 40.  The 36 of George Hong did not count.

Orchard is now at solo fourth with 242 points on rounds of 117 and 125 while Cebu’s Alta Vista Golf and Country Club rounded up the top five with 237 points (117-120).

Victor Gocela powered Alta Vista on day two with 42 points while Kim Jae Eun added 40 and Ramon Sebastian, the singing club treasurer and golf chairman, made 38 points.  The fourth player was Agapito Suan, Jr. with 31.

Manila Golf lurks at sixth with 234 (114-120), followed by Socal Redhawk with 223 (103-120), Victorias 198 (99-99), SF Crystal Spring 190 (93-97), and co-host Club Filipino with 178 (89-89).

Ramon ‘Boboy’ Durano IV led Club Filipino with 38 points while Hector Almario added 28 and Joselito ‘Jiji’ Gullas made 23.  The 19 of Lito Barino did not count.

FOUNDERS DIVISION

Eagle Ridge continued to stamp its class in this second-ranked group with a two-day total of 260 points on rounds of 133 and 127.

Playing at the Mactan Island Golf Club in Lapu-Lapu City, Eagle Ridge was led by Lee Tonghwa with 45 and he was backed by Cesar Castro 42 and Ryoo Si Kun 40.

Negros Occidental Golf and Country Club climbed to second with an aggregate of 249 on rounds of 125 and 124.  Scoring on the second round were Federico Locsin III 44, Lito Ong 41, and Rene Silos 39.

Pueblo de Oro Golf and Country Club dropped to third after sharing the lead on the first day with a total of 244 (133-111).  Clifford Celdran led the team with 43 points and was backed by Mike Celdran and Jeun Yang with 34 apiece.

Riviera is fourth with 243 followed by Coral Ocean Point Saipan with 239.

Co-host Mactan dropped to 12th with an aggregate of 225 points on rounds of 124 and 101. Rolando Alberto led the team with 37 points while Oscar Cornelio added 36 and Edwin Espina had 28.

Third round action on Saturday will still be played on both courses.
