Casimero easily destroys Mexican in IBF eliminator

CEBU, Philippines – Former IBF light flyweight champion Johnriel ‘Cuadro Alas’ Casimero (21-2, 13KOs) scored a vicious second round knockout against Mexican Armando ‘Cobra’ Santos (14-4, 8KOs) in an IBF flyweight title eliminator yesterday at the Salon Las Palmas in Monterey, Mexico.

With the victory, Casimero earned the mandatory shot at the IBF 112-pound crown currently held by undefeated Thai Amnat Ruenroeng.

In a report from boxingscene.com, Casimero wasted no time as he immediately unleashed a flurry of combinations to the head and body of Santos who was knocked down for the first time in the last minute of the opening round.

Sensing that his opponent hasn’t still recovered from his first round onslaught, Casimero finished what he started as he went for the kill and finally put an end to Santos in the 25 seconds of the second round.

“I wanted an impressive win but I was a little surprised that I finished him (Santos) early,” said the pride of Ormoc City. “I hope that this is the start in my goal of becoming a world champion again. I thank all our countrymen who keep on supporting me.”

The 25-year-old Casimero lost his IBF light flyweight belt before he can climb on the ring last May 2 at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino after failing to make the regulatory weight limit of 108 lbs.

It was still a bright moment for him after he need just one round to disposed Colombian challenger Mauricio Fuentes. (FREEMAN)
