UC, USPF seek first win

Gabby G. Malagar - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Two winless teams in the seniors division, the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters and the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers, hope to arrest their three-game losing skid when they clash head-on in the 13th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) men's basketball tournament tonight at the Cebu Coliseum.

Before the UC-USPF duel set at 6:45 pm, the University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers (5-2) will go up against the unpredictable Cebu Institute of Technology-University  (CIT-U) Wildkittens (3-3) in their final elimination round assignment with hopes of formally clinching the third spot that would assure them of a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals.

The Webmasters and the Panthers are both struggling in their quest for that elusive victory this season, but either of them will surely achieve that after their match.

UC and USPF have one thing in common, they are rookie-laden teams and therefore no one can claim clear or huge advantage between them. The Webmasters have at least four holdovers from their last year's roster in the same manner with the Panthers.

The next issue to be taken here is who among them is more prepared. The Webmasters can count on  Jan Michael Auditor, Alexander Asis, Pompero Miranda III and the comebacking Arvin Kim Gomez, while the Panthers will rely on the likes of Jomari Sollano, Art Camello, Lawrence Escanilla and Jenrey Nudalo.
