UC to send solid Webmasters crew in 26th Universiade
CEBU, Philippines - Snubbed by other CESAFI-member schools, University of Cebu Webmasters team manager Atty. Baldomero C. Estenzo had no other choice than to send a solid UC crew to the 26th Universiade this August in Shenzhen, China.
Players from other schools did not heed the request by UC for practice sessions last week at the Cebu Coliseum prompting Eztenzo to make such decision. He also understands that the other schools are also preparing for the 11th CESAFI season on July 30 and he doesn't want to disturb their preparations.
Estenzo said 12 cagers will form the team to be coached by Roehl Gomez. Only one more slot is being seriously considered right now, but the 11 players are already sure of getting the slots.
They are 6-foot-9 center and CESAFI MVP Junemar Fajardo, Kelvin Juliane, Krist Edward Pao, Brian Heruela, Robinson Mohammad, Jan Michael Auditor, Arvin Kim Gomez, Gerald Ampoon, Francis Luigi Bercede and Hans Kirby Cabrera.
During the turnover of championship trophy the Webmasters won in Ormoc City last June 8, UC president Atty. Augusto W. Go promised his players that he will shoulder the expenses of their three-day sidetrip to Hong Kong from China as incentive for winning the CESAFI championship last year where they ended the nine-year reign of the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers.
