Ave Maria, ACT thrash foes in CBA cagefest
CEBU, Philippines - Ave Maria Sanctuary Park and Asian College of Technology (ACT) Cyber Knights trampled separate foes at the start of the second round of elimination in the 1st M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala-Cebu Basketball Association (CBA) season the other night at the Cebu Coliseum.
Ave Maria scored a 110-92 demolition of Mandaue-Cebu Landmasters, who reported with only six players, while the Cyber Knights demolished Hotel Fortuna, 100-72.
The main gate of the Coliseum was opened free to the public during the second quarter of the ACT-Hotel Fortuna game but still the crowd didn't come in knowing it was the lousiest game they will be watching inside.
Commissioner Jose "Boy" Murillo said they did not call off the game by virtue of default because it was not written in the CBA ground rules that a team is declared loser by forfeiture if there will only be six players present.
Murillo said some of the players of Mandaue and Hotel Fortuna went to their respective hometowns for a vacation.
Enrico Llanto led Ave Maria with 26 points even as three other teammates also finished in double figures.
The Landmasters were led by Frangel Omolon with 38 points.
In the nightcap, Eliud Poligrates, borrowed from the M.Lhuillier-Cebu Niños while the Liga Pilipinas is in the off-season, topscored with 22 points for the Cyber Knights, while Vernini Tangarorang had 17 points for the Hoteliers.
