Jaca stops Dunal in third round of 'Night of Gladiators'

-

CEBU, Philippines - Jimrex “The Executioner” Jaca made short work of his opponent signaling he is ready for another shot at a world title fight including a dream rematch against Mexican lightweight king Juan Manuel Marquez.

Jaca, under the banner of his new promotional outfit R.S Boxing, showed his dominance against countrymen Arnel Dunal as he stopped the latter using crushing body blow for a technical knockout win in the third round during the main event of “Nights of Gladiators” last Saturday at Tabunok Sports Complex in Talisay City.

The two fighters were feeling each other in the first two rounds, until Jaca suddenly unleashed a combination finished with a left uppercut to the midsection that sent Dunal to the canvass at the 2:35 mark of the third round.

“Plano gyud nako to nga lawason siya (Dunal) kay nakita nako nga sakitan man siya kung maigo nako sa lawas,” said Jaca.

Even if Dunal was just a last minute substitute to Panamanian William Gonzales, Jaca said he felt the power of Dunal, pushing his self to finish the fight early to secure the win.

R.S Promotion big boss Rafael Sancho said his next plan for Jaca is to fight against Russian world youth boxing champion Beka Sajatdia on May 14 at the Waterfront-Cebu City Hotel and Casino.

In the supporting bout, Spanish Felix Soria made an impression in his first tour of duty on Philippine soil, stopping Butuan-native Giovannie Rota with a left hook to the liver at 2:03 of the opening round.

On the other hand, world title hopeful Dodie Boy Peñalosa, Jr. scored another jaw-dropping knockout victory against Jun Morano in 1:18 of round one.

In the undercard, Julios Alcos of Omega Boxing stable outpointed Tantan Ricablanca of Bernard Yu Stable, 99-90, 99-90, 98-91, while the pride of Dalaguete, Cebu Virgilio Silvano demolished Erwin Pulvera in the third round.

Even with a bloodied cut in the forehead, Sarry Canonigo successfully scored a unanimous decision win against Roel Honor. After eight rounds of boxing the three judges penned identical scores of 80-69, mark to Canonigo.

The lone pair who failed to come-up with a win was the fight between Jelbert Bacalso and Junny Salogaol that ended in a majority draw. – THE FREEMAN
