CDU teams trip foes in Alberto's Pizza hoopfest

CEBU, Philippines - Teams from Cebu Doctors' University (CDU) blasted separate foes in contrasting fashion in the 1st Alberto's Pizza Cup-Nursing Edition basketball tournament at the Our Lady of Sacred Heart Parish gym along Escario Street, this city.

The CDU Spartans rode on a sizzling opening assault to blow away the University of San Carlos (USC) Team B, 64-46, while the CDU Nursery had to pass through a five-minute extention before getting rid of Southwestern Univer-sity (SWU), 75-70.

The Spartans were never threatened after taking an early 21-8 lead. They closed the first half with a 16-point advantage, 37-21, and sustained their momentum the rest of the way to hack out an 18-point demolition.

In the main event, SWU was leading most of the way before Nico San Juan came to CDU's rescue by drilling in 15 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter and overtime.

Meanwhile, the Alberto's Pizza cagers will figure in another exhibition match, this time against the Rama Boys led by Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama at 6 pm tomorrow at the Capitol Parish Gym.

The rest of the Rama Boys include Rene Toring,Danny Aying, Lito Navarro, Argel Magan, former San Beda Red Cub Charlie “The Slugger” Reyes, Aniñon and Jun Babatid.

Alberto’s Pizza, on the other hand, is composed of Rafson Chua, Donny Kiamko, Sidney Kiamko, Heidi Prete, Bryan Climaco, Kent Tandan, Momon, Peter Rodriguez, Rady Alvarez, Mark Villagonzalo, Paul Alvarez, Ramil Labay, Mark Kasayan, Hans Grogaard, Iam Aparri and Wilby Tan. (FREEMAN)
