New Year wishes

I wish everyone a happy and prosperous New Year!

As we start 2011, here are some of my wishes, which I’m sure I share with several other sports fans:

- For Tiger Woods to win at least one Major.

- For Michael Schumacher to win a couple of races in the F-1 circuit.

- For the San Antonio Spurs to become the NBA champions again.

- For Frankie Miñoza to figure prominently and hopefully win an event in the PGA Champions Tour.

- For more Filipino professional golfers to make it to the various tours and earn a good

living playing the game.

- For more Filipino boxing champions.

- For more Filipino world beaters in sports like billiards, bowling, and the various forms

of martial arts.

- For a strong performance of Team Philippines in the Southeast Asian Games late this year.

- For the Philippine Azkals to score more wins.

- For the Philippine sports leaders to work hand in hand with each other.

- For peace and harmony in all the national sports associations so that they may be able to

attain their goals.

- For an honest-to-goodness grassroots sports development program in every province of the country.

- For more international events in Cebu.

- For the success of Lapu-Lapu City’s hosting of the Davis Cup tie between the Philippines and Japan.

- For more shooting competitions.

- For more football tournaments and better officiating of the matches.

- For harmony in the school leagues between the tournament officials and the school

sports directors.

- For more volunteer coaches and trainers and more donors of sports equipment of the Cebu City Sports Institute.

- For more interest in sports by the government officials.

- For a successful bidding and repair of the rubberized track oval at the Cebu City Sports

Center.

- For at least two professional golf tournaments in Cebu.

- For another sports center to be built in Cebu where the serious athletes can train.

- For the entire Filipino race to be more interested in sports.

- For more corporate sponsors for the lesser-known events.

- For more parents getting their kids into sports.

- And, personally, I wish for better health and recovery from various injuries to get back

into the field and play the sports that I love.I wish us all the best for 2011!

MILESTONES: A very happy birthday to my aunt Marydel ‘Medette’ Quiñones-Miranda, who turns a year older today.

The same goes to my mistah Lt. Col. Demar Pauly and coach Eleazar Toledo.

Belated greetings go to my cousin Jude Bacalso, who turned a year older the other day, and to Jocerie Aragon-Martinez, who celebrated yesterday.

Advance greetings go to Dr. Hopee Solano, Ida Benemerito, and Stanley Ong, who are

celebrating tomorrow.

Best wishes to Simon David Go, son of my good friend Vicente ‘Inting’ and Encai Go,and to Kristine Carissa Kahler, daughter of Bob and Gina Kahler, who are tying the knot tomorrow.
