The SI Swimsuit Issue

Gather together a former world number one in women’s tennis, four winter olympians, wives and girlfriends of footballers and “Dancing With The Stars” competitors plus a handful of professional models then distribute them to five different locations and what do you get?

In its almost-bare glory, we have the 2010 SI Swimsuit Edition, shot in six countries with 31 models. Now I’m dreaming of becoming a photographer to these ladies. The issue is lacking in text but who cares? There’s more than a hundred photos of these ladies to admire or to drool, whichever is your preference. Picture Ana Ivanovic greeting you in the first few pages, clad a in pink two-piece number lying on a bed of pink tennis balls. The former womens’ topseed from Serbia then comes back in a yellow two-piece suit. A refreshing sight from the usual tennis outfits we see her wear. The pink Hope Tennis Balls serving as her bed made by Wilson gives part of their sales to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

If you guys think posing and modeling is easy, ask Ana. She’d rather play five sets. That shot with the balls reportedly gave her cramps. One of the easiest modeling jobs perhaps is to pose for a funeral parlor. You just try to be your deadest best.

What do Peter Crouch, Christian Vieri, Clint Dempsey and Bastien Schweinsteiger have in common? Aside from being football internationals playing for England, Italy, USA and Germany respectively, they had their wives and girlfriends pose for SI in this edition. Beautiful ladies representing the beautiful game. Hey, what swimsuit? They’re wearing body paint, people.

Whistler Mountain has been THE place the past two weeks. The world witnessed the 2010 Winter Olympics and the games contributed four of their good looking athletes for the magazine’s pictorial. Set in the snowy event venues, these ladies braved the freezing weather just to show to us their well-tuned bods in bikinis. Two of these ladies later on produced medals for the US.

Alpine ski racer Lindsey Vonn had a gold and bronze medal output while snowboarder Hannah Teter got a silver medal.

In my side of the planet, we had Solar Sports so we got daily coverage of the winter games. Too bad the closing ceremonies was cut short for some stupid NBC series, which could die a natural death after several episodes. It was nice to see Michael Buble though, in a Sinatra-like performance.

Ah, “Dancing With The Stars”. Anna Trebunskaya and Chuck Liddell (yup, aside from rearranging people’s faces, he does dance), Edyta Sliwinska and Lawrence Taylor, Cheryl Burke and Maurice Greene, Chelsie Hightower and Ty Murray. The ladies were in delightful two-piecers, and thankfully, the guys are in regular street clothes.

The photo shoots were done aside from Whistler Mountain in Canada, also in the beaches of the Maldives, the valleys of Lisbon in Portugal, India, and at the world’s highest and driest desert at 8,000 feet above sea level, the Atacama Desert in Chile. It is so dry rainfall in measured by millimeters per decade.

Bikini shoots equals bikini speak. Some terminologies to remember:

My Girls - what a model calls her breasts.

Pepperoni - the epicenter of the “girls”.

Underboob - if the top is a bit small and a portion of the “girl” pops out of the bottom creating some kind of a reverse cleavage. Reverse or not, its still pleasing to the eyes.

My son Emil leaves for the USA tomorrow for a three-month, work and travel program. He will be working and boarding at a mountain resort. Three months is the longest stretch that he’s gonna be away from us and the cold, wintry place that is Wisconsin is the farthest. This is some sort of a dry run for me and my wife Denise as sooner or later, we all have to let our children go their separate ways.

This trip will be his chance to get in touch with reality - to earn for a living, and the experience, hopefully, will inspire him to make good in his chosen field. Remember, this is not yet your LIFE, it is just the BEGINNING. If you do things well and as planned, your future will be bright. Have fun and be safe... Good luck, part.!
