Trisha and Carl VS. CIIB in Laya final battle

CEBU – Trisha and Carl and the Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Bureau (CIIB) booted out separate foes to set up a championship showdown in the Labangon Youth Association (LAYA) 1st Ritchie Osmeña Cup at the Labangon Sports Complex.

Trisha and Carl escaped with a 65-61 win over Lola Carmen Chicharon in the crossover semis, while CIIB led by Police Supt. George Ylanan booked the remaining final ticket with a 70-60 drubbing of the Green squad.

The two survivors will clash tonight for the coveted title in a winner-take-all affair, while the losers will slug it out for the third place honors.

Jade Flores paced Trisha and Carl with 21 points, but it was Marcelo Zapanta’s crucial baskets in the last few minutes of the contest that mattered most in beating Lola Carmen Chicharon. Zapanta finished with 17 points followed by Andrew Navaja with 11.

Noel Medalle’s 24-point for Lola Carmen went for naught.

Roy Veloso fired 25 points for CIIB, while Ylanan, the CIIB chief, added 10 points.
