Lancers spear Cobras, 92-59
Seven-time champion University of the Visayas Green Lancers breathe fire and brimstone from the start to melt down the Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras, 92-59, in what could be UV’s finest game, so far, in the 8th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) basketball season last Thursday at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Lancers fought like snake-charmers as they hypnotized the Cobras right after the opening buzzer.
With their shots clicking on all range, the wards of coach Elmer “Boy” Cabahug sprinted to a blistering 35-13 start on the way to take a commanding 23-point advantage at the turn, 44-21.
It was a one-sided show of hardcourt dominance by the red-shot Lancers, who kept on hammering the hapless Cobras with their unforgiving offensive to mount an eye-popping 35-point lead, 90-55, with less than a minute left to play.
6-foot-11 bulldozer Gregory Slaughter scattered 19 points, five assists and five blocks for the Lancers, who wrested the solo second spot with a 3-1 win-loss record, just a full game behind the perfect
Three others Lancers dished out twin figures with Adrian Lao charting in 16 points followed by Ritchum Dennison and Harry Von Lanete with 12 and 11 markers, respectively.
The Cobras, who fell to 1-2, were paced by Alfred Belande and Eleazar Armecin with 10 points apiece. The Cobras face another uphill battle tomorrow as they go up against league front-runner USJ-R Jaguars.
