Webmasters walkout in CESAFI football

The University of Cebu Webmasters staged a daring walkout in a hotly contested match against defending champion University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) that ended to a 1-all draw in yesterday's Cebu Schools Athletics Foundation, Inc. Football event at the Sacred Heart School-Jesuit
UC under coach Glen Ramos abandoned the field with only 28 minutes remaining in the game, protesting a non-calling of foul by its center-referee Michael Cullibra to a USJ-R player, who sneaked in the ball past its goalkeeper Jovie Sacad.
"Naa sa law sa football to protect the goalkeeper," said Ramos.
According to Cullibra and the line-referees, the ball already slipped in the hands of the goalkeeper before the supposed foul was committed.
"Nganong foul man nga na una ug sulod ang bola, unya ilang player (UC) man sad ang naka foul. Naunay man to," said Culibra.
The Webmasters were dominating in the first half, 1-0, off a breakaway goal by Rodney Gandiongco.
Although, the pressure is on both sides as USJ-R also came off from a heartbreaking defeat. Adding tension was the pressure on UC to post at least seven points to slip it into the penultimate round.
"Adto ta motuo sa referees kay sila ang mas duol, sila ang naka kita," said tournament director Bro. Mari Averasturi, who added he would review the ground rules similar to that of the rules followed by basketball.
With the referee's decision, USJ-R will be awarded with the win to improve its card to 3-2. But in case UC wins, still it is not enough for them to earn a slot in the semifinals as they tote a 1-1-1 record.
"It's the referees decision, the referee is always right. The boys played well, in the second half we played defense. I hope in the future they will look into this, we prepared hard and will be lost because of a decision," said Ramos.
USJ-R will be missing the services of Joseph Buglosa after he was slapped with a red card when he attempted to throw a punch against the UC player.
On the other hand, the University of the Visayas continued its onslaught as they handed the winless Cebu Institute of Technology a bashing 10-0 decision with Kurt Acre scoring a hat trick.
