CEBU, Philippines — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-7 has completed its first virtual Program Implementation Review (PIR) for the Calendar Year (CY) 2025 Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP), assessing its implementation across the region while outlining key initiatives for its expanded rollout in 2026.

DSWD-7 Director Shalaine Marie Lucero emphasized the significance of the SFP in her opening message, describing it as “a vital investment in the future of every Filipino child.”

Lucero said the program goes beyond addressing children’s nutritional needs by helping develop healthier bodies, sharper minds, and stronger foundations for the country’s future leaders.

As part of the PIR, DSWD-7 recognized local government units (LGUs) that demonstrated outstanding performance in improving children’s nutritional status, ensuring the timely submission of liquidation reports, and complying with the milk feeding program.

SFP Regional Focal Person Ma. Romilene Padilla stressed that the initiative extends beyond providing meals to children.

“The Supplementary Feeding Program is not just a program that provides food to the children but a program that oversees their nutritional well-being and holistic growth. The program aims to establish continuity in the advocacy of good nutrition for children in every local government unit,” Padilla said.

Following the review, DSWD-7 conducted an orientation for LGU partners in preparation for the CY 2026 implementation. Among the major changes discussed was the planned increase in feeding days from 120 to 180, reflecting the agency’s strengthened commitment to reducing childhood malnutrition and improving nutrition outcomes across Central Visayas.

SFP is one of DSWD’s flagship initiatives aimed at addressing food insecurity and malnutrition among young children, particularly those enrolled in day care centers and supervised neighborhood play areas.

Through structured supplementary feeding interventions, the program supports children’s physical development during their most critical years of growth while promoting long-term nutrition advocacy in communities.
