6 out of 7 LGUs in Cebu’s 3rd district to have CTU

CEBU, Philippines — At least six of the seven local government units in the third district of the Province of Cebu have their regular campuses of Cebu Technological University (CTU).

This after House Bill No. 9075 converting the satellite campus for Balamban, House Bill No. 9150 for the satellite campus in Pinamungajan and House Bill No. 9180 establishing the state-owned universities in Toledo City and Asturias filed by Congressman Pablo John Garcia approved by the Lower House and the Senate have lapsed into law last June.

Garcia is elated that finally the measures he pushed for the establishment of these school campuses have become laws.

“I am overjoyed to learn nga finally, nahimo na gyung balaod ang paghimog regular CTU Campuses sa tulo ka mga lungsod ug usa ka dakbayan sa atong distrito. The amount needed for their operation will be included in the national annual budget. We can just imagine how many families will benefit from a more accessible education for the youth. Dili na kinahanglan moadto sa Cebu City,” Garcia said in a statement.

The said bills were signed by Senate President Vicente Sotto III and House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco -- Republic Act 11787 (CTU Pinamungajan Campus Act), Republic Act 11788 (CTU Toledo Campus and CTU Asturias Campus Act) and Republic Act 11757 (CTU Balamban Campus Act).

These campuses offer short-term technical-vocational courses, as well as undergraduate and graduate courses to those who are interested to enroll and study at these government-run universities.

These institutions are seen to help the education of the students in the third district, especially those who cannot afford to enroll in big universities and colleges.

Prior to these new regular CTU campuses, the third district has first established two CTU in Tuburan and Barili. —GMR (FREEMAN)
